The Skills Development
Service
The Skills Development Service offers a three step
training and work experience programme for people suffering
from mental health problems.
The project
aims to help individuals develop marketable skills and
the work related disciplines needed to access and maintain
a range of vocational and employment choices. The training
is aimed at those who require a period of work related
rehabilitation to help them move on to a wide range
of vocational options. This is achieved by helping
individuals develop accredited skills within a formal
work and training environment.
On entry, qualified tutors work with
new trainees to assess individual skills and strengths
and help individuals define their vocational and/or
employment aspirations. An individualised training plan
is designed and regularly monitored to enable trainees
to progress and succeed in their goals. Trainees work
to achieve accredited qualifications.
As well as
training in marketable skills, the courses are designed
to be of benefit to anyone wishing to master a range
of day to day life skills in home maintenance such as
painting and decorating, carpentry, elementary plumbing,
tiling, shelving, plugs and fuses, gardening techniques,
as well as skills for managing day to day affairs such
as IT and administration.
